Gifted and Enriched Services

At Chippewa Local Schools, we celebrate the unique talents of every student. Through our Gifted and Enriched Services, we aim to nurture these abilities in an environment that inspires growth, fosters creativity, and provides opportunities for advanced learning.

What Does Gifted/Enriched Mean?

Gifted and enriched services are designed to identify and develop students’ special talents. These talents are recognized through standardized testing, teacher observations, checklists, and recommendations. In enriched classrooms, students experience a variety of differentiated activities, including pretests, alternative work, and short- and long-term projects that cater to diverse learning styles and intelligences.

Yearly Goals for Enriched Classrooms

Students participating in gifted and enriched programs will:

  • Master basic skills aligned with state standards for their grade and subject.
  • Develop higher-level thinking, including analysis, creation, and evaluation.
  • Engage in enrichment opportunities that exceed grade-level expectations.
  • Experience creativity through diverse perspectives and problem-solving.

District-Wide Gifted Services

Chippewa offers a range of district-wide gifted services tailored to individual student needs, including:

  • Early Entrance to Kindergarten: For students who qualify to start kindergarten before age five.
  • Single Subject Acceleration: Advancing students to a higher grade level in a specific subject.
  • Grade Level Acceleration: Allowing students to advance an entire grade.

Enrichment Opportunities by School

Hazel Harvey Elementary (K–2): Students receive differentiated instruction above grade-level within their general education classroom.

Chippewa Intermediate School (3–6): Students engage in differentiated instruction above grade-level with general education teachers or gifted intervention specialists.

Chippewa Jr./Sr. High School (7–12): Students access enriched courses, honors programs, College Credit Plus opportunities, and more to support advanced learning.
